A Gluttonous 2013, the best bits

Happy New Year! Looking back on 2013 it wouldn’t be unfair to say I did nothing but eat. It was indeed a year rich in food experiences and one which culminated in me taking the ultimate leap of faith to pursue the language of food full time in Italy. The food frolics and indulgences I have experienced over the past year have been amazing and continue to inspire my passion for the world of gastronomy.

I wanted to share a sample of the tastiest cuts of 2013, some of which I have already posted and some that slipped by in a blur of delectable delight. 2014 will be hard pressed to top this.

La Société, Shanghai, China – the ultimate opulence in Shanghai dim sum

Yardbird, Hong Kong, China – hipster yakitori joint which serves all parts of the chicken on a stick. And famous for it’s KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower), covered in a tangy yuzu-chile sauce.

Tim Ho Wan, Hong Kong, China – cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant in the world and the best char siu bao

Bubbledogs Kitchen Table, London, UK – sixteen course degustation of season small plates sat around James Knappett’s kitchen.


Geranium, Copenhagen, Denmark – the best restaurant experience of 2013, faultless and exquisite.

The Ethicurean, Bristol, UK – Kitchen garden restaurant set in the beautiful surrounds of the Barley Wood Walled Garden.

Guido, Serralunga d’Alba, Italy – Set within the Fontanafredda winery estate in a very opulent dining room. Traditional Italian dishes done exceptionally well.


Upper House, Gothenburg, Sweden – Degustation menu of seasonal produce with a view over Gothenburg, my last meal of 2013 and an awesome way to spend it.
